So you know how people think things happen for a reason? I did a tarot reading last night and tried to post it several times but it wouldn’t post….

Away

Hey everyone
I am going out of town tomorrow so I’m sorry if I don’t post

Jun 26
I was thinking of my followers when I did this reading, I don’t know who this is for, but I hope it helps
7ofWands-creativity, inspiration, the arts, attraction, achievement of goals, victory, over writers block, focused energies
8ofCups-emotion with thought, Common sense, mind and heart in accord, accepting fate
The Devil-an acceptance of that which cannot be proved, or the learning of the existence of that which cannot be proved. An awakening of faith. Like the card death these experiences are usually painful but very much worth it
Good luck :3

Pet names and deities!?

chasing-isis:

Is it or is it not appropriate to name a pet after a deity? If it is a deity you worship, is it acceptable? What if it isn’t someone you’ve worked with? What do you guys think?

Pets are usually guides or familiars, so it is entirely appropriate
It does not need to be one you worship

Avoiding something unforeseen

I saw a reblog post of my potions post, said how do you avoid something unforeseen, this person has a point. You don’t see many of the outcomes or consequences coming, so how Do you avoid them. A lot of the time you can’t but just like in life there are precautions you can take to lessen or even dispel some of them. Also, knowing a understanding what you are doing, or having someone there who does, can help you avoid some of that hassle. But you can never avoid EVERYTHING there are things unforeseen that will take by storm, you’ve just got to be braced and breath through it

Ask a Pagan

  • Found the newest and latest pagan book full of fluffy feel good potions fluttery love spells and the what could go wrong banishing rituals? Don't buy it, save your money. Most pagan books that are popular today are written by someone who has no true experience. Find a local pagan group, find a teacher, today it's easier to find a teacher thanks to the Internet. If they recommend a book go for it, but until you know, steer clear. You gotta know what you want when you search, if you aren't clear you may not like the result
  • By the way, not all "local pagan groups" are the best environment to learn in.... But there are teachers out there
  • Ask any questions you want, I can't promise an answer directly from me, but I will answer : 3

Potions, spells, and charms

I feel the need to remind all pagans to be very careful in their practices while potions and spells and charms may work 99.99999% of the time there are unforeseen consequences and the magick may not respond or work in the way you desire

Pagan Survey

Do you have a magickal name?

Mhuire na Dóiteáin agus ar an Domhan It’s a bit long, but very appropriate to me.

What does it mean?

It is roughly translated to Lady of the Fire and of the Earth, though I normally refer to myself as Dóiteáin, meaning the fire

How did you find Wicca/Paganism?

Ok first, it isn’t Wicca / Paganism, all wiccans are pagan, not all pagans are wiccan, sorry its a pet peeve.
i was born and raised in a Gnostic Lucifarian household, so exploring the paths of paganism came naturally and early.

How long have you been practicing?

I was conceived during a Babylonian ritual, so my mom says since before I was born, I have optionally and on my own, been practicing and doing ritual for a little over 12 years.

Solitary or group practitioner?

I like practicing in groups more, but that isn’t always an option, so I tend to practice in a solitary manner

What is your path?

Every path imaginable and then some…. I don’t identify with a single path, while paths do have set rules, if you know the basics and the laws of all paths then you can kinda branch out. I’m very open to trying new things as well as teaching people what I know. I am more on a healing path though, that is one out of two of my passions in magick, the other being divination.

Are you out of the broom closet?

yup

Who is your patron God?/Who is your patron Goddess?

eeehhhhh… why this(these) question(s). It is a polytheistic religion for a reason, no one god/goddess gets all attention. I do not have a set patron for either (although I tend to be a little more partial of Selene from the greek practicing). They all need to be respected in their own way, they each have rituals that you need to perform when dealing with them, they each have their own invocations… so it is really more to do with what you are doing and what you will be doing in the future. My family’s patron was papa legba from the Haitian Vodou.

Do you fear darkly aspected Gods/Goddess, or rather respect them?

There is no light/dark black/white good/evil
a god/goddess can have an aspect of their power that can create fear, but that is power being wielded, it is neither dark nor light, it just is. I have very high respect for all of the gods

Do you worship the Christian God?

I have… with other parts of my family. I don’t regularly though, though I still respect him as a god.

Do you ever worship animals?

Of course, I respect and worship the animal as well as his/her god/goddess

Or plants?

Same as animals

Do you regularly commune with nature?

Only every time I breathe… A little to hard not to….

Ever walked barefoot in the woods?

There’s another option? Of course I do

Taken a camping trip just to talk to nature?

I always have a tent set up in the woods down by the lake by my house, I’m always running out there for a few hours or a couple of nights.

Describe the moment you felt closest to Mother Earth?

There is this park a few miles from where I live, it leads up to the edge of the woods. A local pagan group has a ritual spot up in the woods and I went in search of it. Well I found it, and it had a WEIRD and freaky energy about it. I ignored that part. The reason the group chose this location is because a house, that had had a stone fireplace, burned down about 50 years ago, the fireplace is still standing. So I sat in the grassy spot in front of the fireplace and began a meditation. After that meditation, the hike down, I felt every animal and plant, I heard the sigh of the trees, it was incredible to the point where it is almost impossible to describe.

What is your spirit animal?

This is gonna sound a little too by the book and typical, but my guide and animal is a wolf, an Arctic Timber wolf with soft creamy fur. She is so tall and powerful… I love her.

Do you have a familiar?

My cat, actually my that died about 6 years ago. We were more like sisters than pet and owner. She is sort of my familiar and my spirit guide. When she died I was heart broken, it was that that caused me to study astral projection and dream shaping so I could see her again. She became my magickal guide, she helped me find my actual spirit guide.

Have you ever called upon the powers of an animal in ritual?

Yes…

Or a plant?

All the time

Do you hug trees?

…… You ask a pagan that? hahahahahaha
that would be a yes

Give them gifts?

Yup

What is your favorite flower to work with?

pomegranate blossom as well as black roses

What is your favorite tree to work with?

oak and willow

What is your favorite sabbat?

Samhain

What is your least favorite sabbat?

I don’t think I have one

Have you ever held a ritual on a sabbat?

Every year…. Follow my pagan blog to find out http://www.tumblr.com/blog/apagansblog

Ever taken a day off work to celebrate a sabbat?

IF I have to I will, but I have been lucky

Do you celebrate Yule on the 21st rather than the 25th?

21st I celebrate it on the solstice as tradition, and then I celebrate Christmas with my Christian relatives

Have you ever felt the veil thin?

A lot more than you would think

Ever danced the Maypole?

oh gosh… only when i was REALLY young

Do you know what the Maypole symbolizes?

Yes

How do you usually celebrate the sabbats?

I usually do a small feast for my pagan relatives and my ancestors, and then I go outside and do whatever ritual I have prepared

Do you use Tarot?

I do, I own a toth deck, and I.. I don’t, it isn’t my favorite divination tool

Do you use runes?

I have in the past, but I am currently learning more about them and there uses

Do you use a pendulum?

Yes, I were one in my hair, usually in a feather clip, or I have one as a pendant on a necklace as well so that I may always have one with me

Do you use dowsing rods?

When I get the chance

Do you use astrology?

eh… sometimes… again not my favorite tool

Any other form of divination?

I use Fire and water, I also will go outside and lay in the grass and listen to what the air tells me.

What was the first spell you did?

:3 A beauty spell, on my hair to make it grow and stay sleak and shiny

What was the latest?

Well… ever heard of Michelle Belanger… Yeah? well I know her personally, so I’m gonna say yes

Werewolves?

Hey i believe in vampires… come on this one should be easy

Shapeshifters?

yes

Elves?

Absolutely

Faeries?

ABSOLUTELY YES

Dragons?

yes

Nymphs?

Yes

Sprits?

Again, the whole, you ask a pagan this?

Mermaids?

Yes.

Sirens?

Yes.

Satyrs?

Yes.

Ever seen any of the above?

All except Mermaids, dragons, Were-anything

Ever talked to any of the above?

To spirits all the time, to the fae often, Vampires always, the others… well I was either too scared or too awed

Ever used any of the above in magick?

Yes

Do you have one of them as a personal guardian?

Yes, but that is between myself and them

Do you see a rabbit, a man or a woman in the moon?

I see a woman

Own a cat?

YESH :3 heehee I own two, currently

When you mediate what does your happy place look like?

“happy place” ? I hope to god you mean astral sanctum… That question is a little personal

Do you work with Chakras?

not a lot

Do you believe in past lives?

yea

If so, describe a few briefly:

Do you believe in soul mates?

yea

Do you have a spirit guide?

yes

Is it always love and light?

no

Solstice post 1

Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning “sun” + “to stand still.” As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.

As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year. The Northern Hemisphere celebrates in June, but the people on the Southern half of the earth have their longest summer day in December.

Early Celebrations

Awed by the great power of the sun, civilizations have for centuries celebrated the first day of summer otherwise known as the Summer Solstice, Midsummer (see Shakespeare), St. John’s Day, or the Wiccan Litha.

The Celts & Slavs celebrated the first day of summer with dancing & bonfires to help increase the sun’s energy. The Chinese marked the day by honoring Li, the Chinese Goddess of Light.

ShamanicCircles.org takes a shamanic look at the Summer Solstice:

Generally speaking, shamanic Summer Solstice Ceremonies focus on the themes of fulfillment, enlightenment, abundance, sharing, and the joy of living on this beautiful EarthHome.

The article then outlines 6 ceremonial options. Here’s 3 of them:

2) Doing a Fire ceremony that honors the gift of Fire. Fire partakes of the Sun and is considered the Sun within the Earth.

4) Making a Prayer Stick or Prayer Tree upon which you place specific prayers for those who need healing, for the return to peace where there is no peace, for abundance in areas of the world where there is now poverty and scarcity.

6) Creating a Circle that sends healing love to others round the Earth. Circling together, find a way consciously to send your blessings and your love in such a way that you see “what you are sending” as encircling the globe of Earth.

LaurelAlexander.co.uk has a great article outlining the history of the solstice around the world and also has some suggestions for personal rituals. Here’s three of them from her list:

Make a small sun wheel garden, either indoors or out using the flowering herbs of vervain and St John’s Wort and Sun herbs such as frankincense, juniper, rosemary and saffron and all yellow or golden flowers. Arrange them in the form of a wheel and fill in the centre with tiny golden crystals or glass nuggets. You can breathe in the golden light from your living sun wheel.

Light sun oils, frankincense, juniper, rosemary, orange or benzoin or burn them as incense to bring the sun power into your home or workplace.

Cast golden flowers or herbs into the air from a hill, a handful at a time, making empowerments for courage and achievement to the winds. Where they land and take root represents in the old traditions places of buried treasure or in this case symbolizes new or buried talents you can develop to realize your hidden potential.

Litha is the name in the Pagan Wheel of the Year for the Summer Solstice. Here’s some background:

Humanity has been celebrating Litha and the triumph of light since ancient times. On the Wheel of the Year Litha lies directly across from Yule, the shortest day of the calendar year, that cold and dark winter turning when days begin to lengthen and humanity looks wistfully toward warmth, sunlight and growing things. Although Litha and Yule are low holidays or lesser sabats in the ancient parlance, they are celebrated with more revel and merriment than any other day on the wheel except perhaps Samhain (my own favourite). The joyous rituals of Litha celebrate the verdant Earth in high summer, abundance, fertility, and all the riches of Nature in full bloom. This is a madcap time of strong magic and empowerment, traditionally the time for handfasting or weddings and for communication with the spirits of Nature. At Litha, the veils between the worlds are thin; the portals between “the fields we know” and the worlds beyond stand open. This is an excellent time for rites of divination.

Those who celebrated Litha did so wearing garlands or crowns of flowers, and of course, their millinery always included the yellow blossoms of St. John’s Wort. The Litha rites of the ancients were boisterous communal festivities with Morris dancing, singing, storytelling, pageantry and feasting taking place by the village bonfire and torch lit processions through the villages after dark.

TheWhiteGoddess outlines some of the traditional Litha rituals:

Since this sabbat revolves around the sun, a candle should be lit for the entire day, especially if it is cloudy or raining. The fire represents the sun and is a constant daily reminder of the power of the God. Rituals should be performed at noon, when the sun is highest in the sky. The best rituals to perform on Midsummer are those dealing with masculine issues, masculine energies, or issues dealing with solar influence.

Many pagans choose to make protective amulets, in the week before the Sabbat, which are later empowered over the Midsummer balefire. Some witches choose to bury their protective amulets each Midsummer’s eve and construct new ones. Rue, rowan and basil, tied together in a white or gold cloth, is a good protective trio that can be carried in your pocket year round.

Midsummer is the time to formalize any relationship and couples that have been together a year and a day since the previous Beltane can make their marriage final. This Sabbat is also an excellent time to re-new wedding vows.

There are many traditional ways to celeberate the solstice around the world. Here are a few examples:

Sweden

On the weekend closest to June 24, the Swedes celebrate one of their biggest – and arguably the most important – holidays: Midsommardagen. The celebration, which honors the summer solstice and Saint John, generally lasts from June 19-25. Midsommardagen is thought to originate from the Vikings and holds many traditions. For instance, single Swedish ladies often place up to nine different flowers beneath her pillow to dream of her future love. Additionally, maypoles are decorated and danced around, while new potatoes of the season are picked to create traditional Swedish dishes.

Poland

The night of merrymaking - also known as St. John’s Night or “Noc Świętojańska - is still observed in parts of Poland and some Polish communities in the United States. It has its roots in magical pagan rituals that honored two important elements: Fire and Water. It is also a feast celebrating the Sun as a source of light and warmth on the longest day of the year, usually June 23.

The name Sobótka was not common all over Poland. In Central Poland’s Mazowsze region and in Eastern Poland - as well as in Ukraine - midsummer was known under a name of “Kupałnocka” or “Kupala.”

The ancient tradition is to burn bonfires, bathe in open waters at sunset, and sing and dance until midnight.

Russia

In Russian and Ukrainian mythology, the evening before the solstice is the only time that ferns bloom. Because finding a fern flower is supposed be a sign of future wealth, many people will be out in the forests and gardens looking for this lucky sign. Young girls also toss flower garlands into the river, and the movement of the garland is supposed to tell them about their romantic prospects.

England

Revellers typically gather at Stonehenge, the ancient stone circle in Wiltshire, to see the sun rise. The Heel Stone and Slaughter Stone, set outside the main circle, align with the rising sun. In addition to the large events at major sites such as Stonehenge, many more Pagans hold small ceremonies in open spaces, everywhere from gardens to woodlands.

Solstice post 2

This was a post by a friend

In the northern hemisphere, the longest day of the year (near June 22) when the Sun is farthest north. The declination of the Sun on the (northern) Summer Solstice is known as the Tropic of Cancer. The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, respectively, in the sense that the length of time elapsed between sunrise and sunset on this day is a maximum for the year.

The Summer Solstice marks the first day of the season of Summer in the northern hemisphere.

This ritual is used to complete external physical manifestation and all energies are about exerting the will. In ancient times it was considered a time of fullness of life, worldly blessings and celebration. Not much has changed today in how we look at summer. We see it as a time of vacations, play, celebration, fun, joviality, parties, and barbecues with family and friends at the beach or park. Days are longer which gives us more time to enjoy the sun and soak in it’s warmth.

The Summer Solstice celebrates the joy, warmth and laughter of summer; and God’s power. The beginning of summer represents a time for purification, renewal of the self, a time to release the sadness, fears and pains from your life. A time for purification and renewed energy.

For couples: it is also a time for renewing the bonds of love that brought the two of you together in the first place. Remember that song from the 1978 movie “Grease” with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta called “Summer Nights”…the amazing feelings of youthful passionate love…bu-ut oh, those su-ummer nights….). With renewed energy of the Summer Solstice all things are possible.

For those of you who are single, it is a time to renew you commitment to find your true love. Since the summer is a time for external physical manifestations then why not include manifesting the ‘right’ person to love? Then your summertime celebration will have even more meaning and someone to share it with.

The Sun exerts its’ maximum power at the Solstice because the tilt of the Earth’s axis makes the Sun’s rays most nearly parallel on that date at points in the Northern hemisphere. The time is here to complete external physical manifestation and all energies are about exerting the will.

The Solstice is a day to see the Creator in everyone you come in contact with and to recognize their divinity along with the recognition of your own self God image. John the Baptist is the recognized saint for the Summer Solstice. The belief is that summer solstice is for renewal, which needs to be a renewed commitment to God and ourselves.

The Summer Solstice Ritual is an extremely powerful ritual. I limit the ritual to only 100 people. This ritual lays the foundation of the summer. The purpose of this ritual, as I said above, is to renew, release and enhance our external physical manifestations. i.e.; financial, health, joy, faith, love, happiness, friendships, family, blessings, fun, luck, fun, and abundance. A sense of being “One with ALL”.

Some people have asked how the ritual is done and what they need to do. So I thought I would give you some more insight.

WHAT WE DO:
When we gather to begin the ritual myself, MariaSuzonne, and a few others start with cleansing my home and ourselves with herbs, soaps, incense and healings. Then we meditate, pray & chant mantras together bring forth the masters, saints, your angels and your spirit guides to assist with your ritual.

Then we begin by lighting your Archangel Gabriel candle, Astrology candle, both your Lemon Yellow & Light Blue image candles, and your Light Blue pyramid candle. Afterwards we begin your Emerald Green & Light Blue 7 knob candles, and your St. John candle.

Each day of your ritual the group of us meditate, pray & chant mantras over your set of candles. We do this as long as any candle is still burning.

HOW THE CANDLES BURN:
The religious candles burn between 7 and 8 days. The pyramid candle takes about 6 to 7 days; the 7 knob candles are burnt at a rate of 1 knob each day, your Astrology candle burns for 7 days and the image candles take about 10 to 12 hours to complete.

WHAT YOU DO:
You will be asked to make a list of the things you want to renew, manifest, enhance, or release in or from your life. I will ask you to send me this list so I may print it out. Then I put it under the candles until the last one is completed. At the next high noon I take your list outside and burn it so the Universe assists in your desires.

You may also be interested in doing some affirmations that would enhance the ritual as well as your life. I have a page on my site that has some very powerful affirmations and a technique given to me by the angels that has proven to be very affective. The page is at http://Circle-of-Light.com/Metaphysical/affirmations.html
